In the early morning of March 29th, Beijing time, the 2022 World Table Tennis Major League (WTT) Star Challenge Doha Station continued the competition the next day. In a men’s singles 1/16 final that ended later, Chinese player Zhou Qihao 3-1 (11-7, 6-11, 11-5 and 11-9) beat Portuguese player Freitas and successfully advanced.
In the first game, Freitas led 4-2 and entered the middle game. After that, Zhou Qihao rose up to catch up to achieve the lead. In the last game, the Chinese players led 8-5. In the end, Freitas received a backhand twist and pulled out, and Zhou Qihao won the first game 11-7.
In the rematch, Freitas had the upper hand at the start. Zhou Qihao started the scoring mode when he was 1-5 behind, and once narrowed the score difference to only 2 points. At the end of the game, the Chinese players made more mistakes, and in the end Freitas equalized the game 11-6.
In the third game, the Portuguese repeated the start of the previous game, and took the initiative 4-1 when entering the middle game. After that, Zhou Qihao scored 6 points in a row and left behind. At the end of the game, the Chinese guy made persistent efforts, and after a strong attack, 11-5 surpassed the game again.
After 2 draws in the fourth game, Zhou Qihao scored 3 points in a row and entered the middle game. At this time, Freitas called a timeout. After the suspension came back, the two sides fought together. In the end, Zhou Qihao seized the opportunity to score consecutively and sealed the victory 11-9.
In the next 1/8 finals, Zhou Qihao will face Germany’s Francesca, who defeated Chinese player Yuan Licen in this round.
