Apple Vision Pro Used Successfully in Rotator Cuff Surgery by Brazilian Orthopedic Surgeon

Since the launch of Apple’s Vision Pro headset, medical professionals have been eager to test out the innovative device in various procedures. Recently, Brazilian orthopedic surgeon Dr. Bruno Gobbato made headlines after successfully using the Vision Pro headset to perform surgery on a patient with a torn rotator cuff.

Dr. Bruno Gobbato, practicing at Jaraguá Hospital in Brazil, shared his experience with MacMagazine magazine, stating that he utilized the Apple Vision Pro for shoulder arthroscopic surgery to repair a rotator muscle tear. The surgeon explained that during shoulder arthroscopic surgery, it is crucial to have a clear view inside the joint through a camera lens and monitor the procedure on a screen. With the Vision Pro headset, Dr. Gobbato was able to have a high-resolution view of images, the patient’s examination, and a real-time 3D model simultaneously.

Impressed with the dynamic range of the Apple Vision Pro, Dr. Gobbato mentioned that the device effectively managed the contrast in the operating room, ensuring a clear and well-lit view of the surgical area. The surgeon also showcased a video demonstrating how he could easily access notes, patient X-rays, and instant photography footage while using the Vision Pro, highlighting the device’s convenience and efficiency during surgery.

While Dr. Bruno Gobbato’s successful use of the Apple Vision Pro in rotator cuff surgery is commendable, he is not the first medical professional to utilize the device in surgical procedures. Apple had previously introduced the Vision Pro App in March 2024, detailing its assistance in knee and hip surgeries. Additionally, a British neurosurgeon had also performed spine surgery using the Vision Pro headset.
