Campfire Audio Launches New 6-Balanced Armature Headphone Fathom

Campfire Audio, a headphone brand owned by ALO in the United States, has recently made waves in the headphone market with its active launch of new products. The company has also raised the price threshold significantly compared to its previous offerings.

In March 2024, Campfire Audio announced the release of its new 6-balanced armature headphone, Fathom. Surprisingly, the price of Fathom is actually lower than that of its 5-balanced armature counterpart, Andromeda. This suggests that Fathom has a different product positioning, focusing on details and offering just the right mid-range warmth to enhance vocals and music performance.

One of the standout features of Fathom is its unique appearance. The headphone boasts rainbow-colored MMCX female bases and PVD parts of the tuning hole, creating a striking contrast with the glossy black shell.

Fathom is equipped with 6 customized balanced armature drivers, arranged in two-by-one configurations for low, mid, and high frequencies. The official structural diagram reveals that the mid- and low-frequency drivers are positioned in the shell, while the high-frequency driver is located behind the nozzle, directly opposite the eardrum. This configuration allows for a more direct transmission of high-frequency sounds.

According to comments on the official website, Fathom’s tuning is said to be an evolution of Andromeda’s characteristics, offering warm and rich low frequencies, clear mid-range frequencies, and detailed high frequencies. However, the background is clearer, and the imaging is more accurate.

Included with Fathom is a special edition Time Stream cable that complements the headphone’s black shell color. The matching protective case for the cable further enhances the overall aesthetic of the product.

Campfire Audio has set the suggested retail price of Fathom at $1,049, making it an attractive option for audiophiles looking for high-quality sound performance at a competitive price point.
