The worlds of trainees and students are usually separate. KIT has now brought them together in a pilot project: Industrial mechanics trainees in their third year of training took part in the “Mechatronic Systems and Products” course.

Together with the students, they built systems such as autonomous mini-excavators or centrifuges, which ultimately competed against each other.

The aim was to break down prejudices between professional groups. The students received insights into practical work such as milling wooden and metal parts, and the trainees received input into theoretical thinking and long-term project planning.
