Kyoto/Esslingen, February 29, 2024. Kyocera Corporation has developed a new inkjet printhead with ink circulation technology at the nozzle. Available from April 2024, the new KJ4B-EX1200-RC (hereinafter the “Printhead”) achieves industry-leading jetting performance across a wide range of printing applications, including commercial and packaging printing. It is also compatible with a variety of inks.

Digital printing offers the advantage of immediate and individual printing in any quantity without makeready times, while at the same time reducing environmental impact by eliminating the polluted wastewater that would be generated during plate cleaning processes.

Product features

1.The ink circulation system on the nozzle is compatible with a variety of ink types, including quick-drying inks, and can be used for a wide range of printing applications.

Kyocera’s unique technology circulates the ink around the nozzle, preventing drying and crusting at the nozzle, while a constant ink temperature ensures that ink deposits do not form in the printhead. This enables stable printing results with various types of inks, including quick-drying formulations, while reducing routine maintenance requirements such as: E.g. print head cleaning when restarting the printer. This new printhead also features a water cooling system as standard for greater stability during continuous, high-speed, high-quality printing.

2.Higher productivity due to higher ejection frequencies and larger maximum drop volumes.

By optimizing the ink channel design and printhead structure, Kyocera has increased the maximum volume of droplets ejected from the printhead to 4.0pl. The maximum output frequency has been increased to 80 kHz, a 43% increase over the previous model, with improved inkjet stability. Higher productivity enables coverage of a wider range of media by optimizing drop volume for applications in the commercial and packaging printing market segments.

3.High print quality thanks to Kyocera’s unique monolithic piezo actuator.

Kyocera developed a large integrated piezoelectric actuator based on the company’s proprietary material design technology for dense polycrystalline ceramic actuators and the manufacturing process technology for thin piezoelectric ceramic substrates. This technology was further developed and optimized by Kyocera with regard to this print head (width: 116 mm x depth: 34 mm x height: 0.04 mm). Kyocera’s new design uses a large monolithic piezoelectric actuator, enabling image homogenization within the printhead and providing higher resolution.
