by admin

The R version of the 2024 top of the range OnePlus it is the right compromise between performance and selling price. OnePlus 12R it is a focused product, not to be underestimated, thanks to the technical choices made by the Chinese company in terms of hardware and aesthetics.

It fits perfectly in the middle, between a premium Phone and a mid-range phone; in fact it acts as a glue between the two price ranges and may be the most appropriate choice for those who want a complete device.

Design OnePlus 12R

A OnePlus is always recognisable. I am not only referring to the constant, coherent and useful application ofAlert Slider on the side profile. I’m talking about the aesthetic lines and the body. The sample being tested is in version Iron Grayfinely worked to guarantee the visual sensation of the worked stone, an aesthetic and tactile solution that has accompanied the company since its inception.

The rear porthole has been iconic for a few years now, which contains the main photographic compartment, which does not protrude annoyingly from the body and guarantees the phone, however, a good balance. The Chinese company has worked to connect the rear with the front in an excellent manner, thanks to the aluminum alloy frame. The lines gently lead the user’s hands towards the front, until they meet the Gorilla Glass Victus 2, the glass that protects the display. The latter is slightly curved at the edges; It is precisely these aesthetic and material choices that contribute to making really slippery the OnePlus 12R, the real negative point on the design of this smartphone.

Display OnePlus 12R

The panel of the OnePlus 12R is a high quality AMOLED. It is a 6.78 inch display with a resolution of 2780x1264p, dynamic refresh from 1 a 120Hz and indicated peak luminance of 4.500 nits. Beyond the exaggerated number indicated by OnePlus, which is difficult to reach in reality, the smartphone screen is in any case clearly visible during outdoor use in conditions of excessive ambient brightness.

OnePlus 12R also guarantees the activation of True Tone, to modulate the color temperature of the panel based on the environmental temperature and allows the user to deeply customize the color display parameters. In particular, it is possible to activate Cinematic Mode, which guarantees support DCI-P3. Well done OnePlus, you did a great job on the display!

I use OnePlus 12R

Using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 inside the OnePlus 12R was the choice adopted by the Chinese company to guarantee excellent performance, while keeping the overall price low. Last year’s top-of-the-line processor is supported in this version by 12GB in RAMfrom the GPU Adreno 740 it’s yes 256GB UFS 3.1 internal storage.

In terms of performance, the choice is a good one. The phone is fluid and fast in all circumstances, performance is guaranteed at high levels even during intense sessions of use. OnePlus has also worked carefully on the dissipation and cooling front, but the processor, however, tends to raise the phone’s temperatures when it is particularly stressed. Despite the implementation of the double graphite vapor chamber, the result is not fully convincing.

In fact, when using the smartphone without a cover, in certain contexts of use, the heat is felt on the tips of the fingers in the upper part of the terminal and along the side frame. The fear is that during the summer period the sensation may be felt even more accentuated. Ultimately, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 confirms itself as an excellent performance processor, but not very optimized in terms of temperatures!

On the software side, however, it is the usual confirmation. OnePlus 12R implements Android 14with security patches dating back to February 2024, customized with OxygenOS. It is a software very similar to the ColorUI by Oppo, therefore complete and stable. First of all, the device unlocking system via fingerprint recognition is excellent below the AMOLED display.

In terms of functionality, there is no lack ofQuick Launchwhich allows you to quickly open a shortcut or an app by long-pressing the fingerprint sensor, after unlocking the device.

Furthermore, functional the smart sidebar, which allows you to resize any installed application in a floating window, in order to enhance productivity. Even at the customization level, the Chinese company’s software has grown a lot, thanks also to the contaminations of Oppo; there is a complete and satisfying Always On Display, a Night mode consistent in all elements of the interface and menus and a launcher that can be modified in many aspects.

OnePlus has worked a lot on haptic feedback, almost perfect and satisfying, thanks to the adoption of O-Haptics technologylatest generation tactile feedback and capable of surprising the user in this price range.

Last, but not least, is the charging technology. OnePlus 12R adopts a 5,500 mAh battery, capable of supporting fast charging SuperVooC a 100W, thanks to the charger included in the package. In less than half an hour it is possible to bring the smartphone from 0 to 100%; this is a truly important technological and competitive advantage compared to other competitors in this price range. OnePlus, on the other hand, thanks to the technologies of the Oppo group, offers many software features within its smartphone to keep the OnePlus 12R’s battery efficient over time, despite the great charging power it is capable of receiving.

Fotocamera OnePlus 12R

OnePlus 12R presents itself to the public with a rear photographic compartment made up of three sensors: the main one 50 MP (Sony IMX980 sensor), the ultra-wide one from 8 MP with FOV of 112° and the senseless and useless macro sensor from 2 MP. The shots are of quality using the main camera, which allows, on the video side, recording in 4K at 60 fps. The photographic results present excellent definition, good color and temperature management and, above all, a low level of video noise at night.

When using the other two sensors, however, the quality drops significantly. Leaving aside the macro sensor, which is totally useless, the ultra-wide-angle camera is unable to guarantee completely clear shots in difficult ambient light conditions and does not present a particularly wide field of view.

OnePlus 12R does not keep up in terms of photographic results with its bigger brother OnePlus 12 and, in some respects, its competitors competing in the same price range also suffer.

Conclusions OnePlus 12R

It’s probably true: the OnePlus of the early days no longer exists today. This epiphrasis must not be seen, however, in a negative light. OnePlus now shares a lot with Realme and Oppo, the user perceives it above all in the software. The recent OnePlus lacks the distinctive character of the past, but the company still offers excellent smartphones, such as the OnePlus 12R. The synergy with mother Oppo has allowed it to gain in terms of reliability and innovation. OnePlus 12R represents, in light of the rapprochement of the two companies, an excellent solution for those who want a functional and stable device.

The smartphone has granitic and refined software; perhaps not as characteristic as in the past, but still complete in all aspects. The hardware equipment is top-notch, starting from last year’s top-of-the-range processor up to the display, which is bright and faithful in color reproduction. The 100W fast charging technology is excellent: once tried, it is really difficult to contemplate the old technologies of the competitors any longer.
