Photovoltaic startup Mo Energy Systems moves into the grand finale

Yesterday, Tuesday, the start of the #believebandich Challenge 2024 took place in the chic event location Hotel Galántha in Eisenstadt in Burgenland. So much in advance: the evening was a complete success. In the first category of the challenge „Climate Protection & Energy” eight startups from all over Austria competed against each other in the city pitch. They all had the same goal: to get the coveted final place in Austria’s largest startup competition run by Erste Bank and Sparkasse, the Chamber of Commerce’s start-up service and Trending Topics.

First place for Mo Energy Systems: solar energy in combination with facades

And the winner is: Mo Energy Systems. With their startup, the founders Alexander Moosbrugger and Manuel Hehle want to turn as many house facades as possible into photovoltaic power plants. For this purpose, the two have developed a special system with which modules can be attached to the facade. Aesthetically appealing glass modules are produced, which are either used together with the substructure – but can also be combined with other conventional modules. The product is already on the market. The founders see a 20 billion euro market for the DACH region alone. “I am in love with glass, have a love for aesthetics and our product provides a useful effect for generating energy – both combined make a great match,” says Moosbrugger.

“I am overwhelmed. It’s the first time we’ve taken part in such an event and won straight away. The atmosphere was really good, there were great companies at the start. We spoke to a number of companies and exchanged ideas, for example with Shadowmap. We can well imagine a synergy,” said co-founder Manuel Hehle after the winner was announced. Mo Energy Systems will now pitch for the title “Startup of the Year” at the finale of the #believebandich Challenge on April 3, 2024.

“We saw the greatest potential at Mo Energy Systems”

“The #believebandich Challenge 2024 is such a great event and every startup pitched so well. It was really a neck-and-neck race and we chose Mo Energy Systems because the concept is mature and offers a solution that doesn’t yet exist,” said jury member Bea Ulreich from the Burgenland Chamber of Commerce about the jury’s decision . Christopher Raithle from Push Ventures adds: “The deciding factors were that we are dealing with an experienced team, there is already an IP on the product and they focus on the B2B area. The facade solution impressed us in terms of application technology and also has international potential. We think you can get a lot out of it.”

In addition to Ulreich and Raithle, Wolfgang Marth (Branch Manager Erste Bank Eisenstadt), Josef Scheidl (Managing Director Brantner) and Alexander Fazekas from (CONDA) sat on the well-known jury. The evening was hosted by moderator Ulrike Kriegler.

Networking on point im Energy-Sektor

So Mo Energy Systems has won the first city pitch in 2024. In addition to the ticket for the final of the startup challenge, where 10,000 euros are up for grabs, the photovoltaic startup from Vorarlberg has prize money of 1,000 euros from Erste Bank and Sparkasse as well as two licenses for the digital training platform “wîse up” from the start-up service Chamber of Commerce dusted off. The check was presented by board member Gerda Holzinger-Burgstaller, who would be happy if a climate startup also won the overall prize in 2024.

The Energy & Climate startups were also able to make good connections that evening and become official partners of the #believebandich Challenge of the Burgenland Business Agency. The keynote speech of the evening was given by Sylvia Molzer from GMP / GxP Consulting. She gave insights into the potential of solar energy and reported on the current state of research. Molzer can also imagine tracking sun rays as a health innovation of the future.
