PlayStation 5 will not have new God of War or Marvel’s Spider-Man games during 2024

Sony Interactive Entertainment plans to not release new installments of its major franchises, such as God of War Ragnarok or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, in the next fiscal year ending on March 31, 2025. This announcement was made by the company during the financial results presentation for the third quarter of fiscal year 2023, revealing a 23.3% increase in video game business turnover, reaching 19,670 million euros.

Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Totoki, clarified that until March 31, 2025, there will be no new titles from popular series like ‘God of War Ragnarok’ or ‘Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.’ Looking ahead, the company expects a slight decrease in proprietary software profits due to a decrease in sales impact in the next fiscal year but maintains the aim of producing high-quality games and developing games as a service.

Expecting a gradual decrease in PlayStation 5 console sales, Sony anticipates a shift in hardware unit sales starting in the next fiscal year as the console is entering the second half of its life cycle. While 8.2 million PlayStation 5 consoles were sold in the third quarter of this fiscal year – below the 9 million expected – Sony noted a cooling in recent months in terms of income from hardware sales.

On a brighter side, the announcement of new games for the PS5 in 2024 has been made after the State of Play event. Even though not many first-party games were revealed, a variety of upcoming titles is expected to captivate players with diverse interests. The release dates for some of the games coming to the PS5 in February, March, and April 2024 have been unveiled, along with a selection of titles slated for the second half and end of 2024.

With information from Europa Press, the future looks exciting for PS5 gamers as they await the arrival of these new titles on the console.
