Renault 5 E-Tech Electric: New small electric car presented

The iconic Renault 5 returns – but this time in the form of an electric car. You can find out what has changed compared to the original from 1972 here.

The basic design of the car is similar, but much more modern than back then. The plastic bumpers, the brightly painted body and the independent headlights give it a friendly, almost human appearance.

The air intake on the hood of the original Renault 5 received a contemporary reinterpretation in the new edition. In its place is a charging indicator in the shape of the iconic number 5, which lights up when the driver approaches the vehicle.

Of course, a lot has changed in the interior too. The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric has a large 10-inch multimedia touchscreen with a bright user interface. The trunk has a capacity of 326 liters and the weight is said to be less than 1,500 kilograms.

Under the hood of the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric there is a compact engine that is based on the drives of the Megane E-Tech Electric and Scenic E-Tech Electric, but takes up less space. The unit benefits from the experience of its predecessors in terms of longevity and is offered in the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric in three power levels: 110, 90 and 70 kW. At a top speed of 150 km/h.

The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric is paired with a new bi-directional AC charger compatible with V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2G (Vehicle-to-Grid) technologies. A maximum 52 kWh battery ensures a range of up to 400 kilometers. This means that the small car is primarily intended as a city car.

Driver assistance systems include an intelligent adaptive cruise pilot and Active Driver Assist for level two partially automated driving. The market launch will take place in autumn 2024 and prices start at 25,000 euros. A small special feature: The Renault 5 E-Tech Electric and its drive components are manufactured entirely in France – including the battery.
