“The PortaFest 2024 Spring Osaka Showcases Shanling’s New Mid-Range DAP M5 Ultra”

The PortaFest 2024 Spring Osaka event took place in Osaka, Japan last weekend, showcasing various new products in the audio industry. Among them, Shanling stood out by introducing its latest mid-range Digital Audio Player (DAP) M5 Ultra, priced at US$589.

Despite being a smaller exhibition, the M5 Ultra boasts a luxurious configuration that sets it apart from other mid-range models. The device draws inspiration from the I/V conversion circuit design of the ear amplifier H7 and the flagship DAP M9 Plus. It utilizes the advanced decoding platform of AKM AK4499EX DAC + AK4191 and a balanced amplification circuit comprised of TI TPA6120A2, delivering a smoother and warmer sound experience. With an output power of 1,100mW@32 Ohm, the M5 Ultra rivals even the flagship M9 Plus in terms of audio performance.

In terms of operating systems, the M5 Ultra features an improved system powered by the Ingenic X2000 platform and the original MTouch OS. This system provides a seamless control experience while also being more power-efficient. Additionally, the device supports USB-DAC, DLNA, Airplay, and two-way Bluetooth 5.2 (LDAC, aptX HD) expansion functions, making it versatile and easy to connect with other devices.

A notable change in the M5 Ultra is its design, departing from Shanling’s usual rounded aesthetic for a more edgy shape. The volume dial is equipped with a backlight, giving the device a more aggressive overall look. This design shift may signify a new direction for Shanling products in the future.

Overall, the Shanling M5 Ultra displayed at the PortaFest 2024 Spring Osaka exhibition showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation and quality in the audio industry.
