The car’s self-developed electric motor is called “HyperEngine V8s” and has a maximum speed of 27,200 revolutions per minute. With an output of 425 kW and a maximum torque of 635 Nm, which, according to Xiaomi, is a new world record for electric motors. The top model accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds and reaches a top speed of 265 km/h.

The motor is powered by self-developed battery technology based on Cell-to-Body (CTB). Inverted cell technology and an elastic intermediate layer ensure reduced cabling and a maximized efficiency value of 77.8 percent. According to Xiaomi, the overall performance improves by 24.4 percent, while the maximum capacity of the battery is 150 kWh and its height has decreased by 17 mm. The range should be over 1200 kilometers. It remains to be seen whether the theoretical values can also be transferred into practice.

The manufacturer also relies on the latest technology in other areas. Two NVIDIA Orin high-performance chips with a combined computing power of 508 TOPS support the smart features for autonomous driving in the Xiaomi SU7. On the hardware side, a LiDAR sensor, eleven high-resolution cameras, three millimeter wave radars and twelve ultrasonic radars in the top model Xiaomi SU7 Max ensure precise perception.

The car’s operating system should start just 1.49 seconds after the doors are unlocked, making the on-board electronics available virtually without waiting. The interior offers access to a 16.1-inch touch main display with 3K resolution, a 56-inch head-up display at the bottom of the windshield and a swiveling 7.1-inch display with driver information directly behind the steering wheel.

Two holders for tablets on the headrests of the front seats round off the equipment. The Snapdragon 8295 in-car chip is said to achieve an AI computing power of up to 30 TOPS and can link not only the different screens, but also countless Xiaomi smartphones and over 1000 Xiaomi smart home applications.

When exactly the Xiaomi SU7 will come onto the market is still unclear. Xiaomi boss Lei Jun has now commented on the price range at least once. Accordingly, a “dream car” was designed with the Xiaomi SU7, which involved high investments. Accordingly, the selling price is also in the higher range. According to the CEO, you shouldn’t expect an electric car for 199,000 RMB (approx. 26,000 euros).
