The superconductor LK-99 is, so to speak, an old acquaintance that caused a stir at the end of July 2023 – and the associated paper was then withdrawn by the South Korean research team. Now there is news from two Chinese groups that have modified the recipe for the material and have made some progress. TR editor Wolfgang Stieler reports what the researchers did differently.
