(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) 29 people infected in the outbreak of the Indonesian National Games
China News Agency, Jakarta, October 6 (Reporter Lin Yongchuan) The COVID-19 outbreak occurred at the site of the 20th National Games of Indonesia in Papua, the easternmost province of Indonesia, and 29 patients who tested positive for the new crown virus are in self-isolation.
Indonesia’s official Antara News Agency quoted the event’s organizing committee’s spokesperson as reported on the 6th that 29 people in four competition areas, including athletes, officials and event committee members, tested positive for the new crown virus and are in self-isolation.
The spokesperson said that these infected persons had been vaccinated against the new crown in their respective provinces before coming to Papua, and all 29 of them were asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic.
Reports indicate that there are 6 athletes out of 29 people, of which 2 are from Jakarta, 2 are from North Sumatra, and the other 2 are from East Nusa Tenggara and East Kalimantan.
Suvarno, chairman of the Supervision and Steering Committee of the event, stated that the organizing committee has implemented strict epidemic prevention management for people participating in the games. All participants must complete the new crown vaccination. Residents are not allowed to go out and walk around at will, nor receive foreigners.
This is the first time the Indonesian National Games held every four years in Papua Province, with 37 competitions. 6,442 athletes and more than 3,500 coaches and officials from 34 provinces of the country participated.
The Games opened at the main venue in Jayapura County, Papua Province on the evening of the 2nd of this month. Indonesian President Joko attended the opening ceremony. The sports meeting will end on the 15th of this month. (over)
