The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department revealed that the young man who committed the crime claimed that he wanted to commit a crime and seek death because of his poor learning.

According to reports, on the 15th, a 17-year-old high school girl, an 18-year-old high school boy, and a 72-year-old man were slashed in the back with a knife on the sidewalk in front of Tokyo University in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo, Japan, preparing to take the common university entrance exam. The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested a 17-year-old sophomore on the spot on suspicion of attempted murder.

According to the teenager’s confession, he did not know the three people who were cut and wounded, and because his studies were not smooth, he wanted to commit a crime and seek death. A knife stained with blood was found at the crime scene, and the teenager said it was taken from his home. In addition, he also claimed to have set fire to a station near the University of Tokyo before the incident.

The Tokyo Fire Department and Tokyo Metro said they received an alarm at about 8:30 a.m. that wood chips were burning at Todai-mae Station on the Nanboku Line of the subway, and the fire was extinguished an hour later. Station staff also found firecrackers and inflammables near the ticket gate of Dongdae-mae Station.
