According to CCTV news, the Health Protection Center of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government announced a locally confirmed case of unknown origin on the evening of July 1. The patient carried the L452R mutant virus strain. It is reported that the patient is a 41-year-old woman who works as a part-time cleaner in a designated quarantine hotel.

According to the data of the Centre for Health Protection, the patient is a 41-year-old female patient living in the Aberdeen Centre. The patient has no symptoms. She was tested regularly by the hotel staff on June 30, and the sample results were initially positive and confirmed to have the L452R mutant virus strain (N501Y and E484K were negative).

The Hong Kong Center for Health Protection is conducting epidemiological investigations and contact tracing. Preliminary information shows that the confirmed patient has not travelled recently and worked as a part-time cleaner at the Yau Ma Tei Bridal Tea House Hotel (designated quarantine hotel). The last date to work is July 1. She also worked part-time cleaning jobs at Crowne Plaza, Ap Lei Chau and No. 2, 12A South Bay Road, Repulse Bay, and the last working dates were June 27 and 29 respectively.

In view of the high infectivity of mutant virus strains, the Hong Kong Health Protection Center has adopted prudent infection control measures to stop the potential risk of further spread of the virus. That night, the SAR government conducted a “closed zone” compulsory testing at the Aberdeen Ligang Center where the patient lived, and required all residents living in the same building to undergo compulsory testing on the 3rd, 7th, 12th, and 19th days from the day the patient was diagnosed. . At the same time, the patient’s workplace and the places she visited during the incubation period and the infectious period were also included in the mandatory testing announcement.
