Xinhua News Agency, Seoul, January 11 (Reporter Lu Rui and Sun Yiran) An F-5E fighter jet of the South Korean Air Force crashed in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea on the 11th, killing a pilot on board.
According to Yonhap News Agency, at 13:44 local time, the fighter jet’s engine fire warning light came on as it took off from the ground, and then the aircraft began to fall rapidly, resulting in a crash. The pilot on the plane attempted an emergency escape, but was unsuccessful.
There were no other casualties in the crash because it occurred in an open area in the mountains. The South Korean Air Force said it would further investigate the cause of the accident and the situation at the scene.
According to Yonhap News Agency, South Korea has been importing F-5E fighter jets from the United States since 1975, and this type of fighter jet has frequently suffered from aging accidents. (Finish)
