The National Railroad Passenger Corporation’s statement stated that the derailed train was the “Empire Builder 7/27” train between Seattle and Chicago. At about 16:00 that day, when approaching Joplin in central Montana, five carriages derailed. At that time, there were about 147 passengers and 13 crew members. Fricker said rescuers from six counties are rushing to the scene, and as many as five hospitals are on standby to receive the injured. She said that there are more medical helicopters on standby. All survivors have been rescued from the train and evacuated to two locations.
