About a hundred people were killed in the Shiite mosque of Sayed Abad in Kunduz, in northern Afghanistan, following the explosion of a bomb while Friday prayers were in progress. This was reported by the Aamaj news agency citing witnesses, according to which another hundred people were injured. The news was also confirmed by a Taliban police officer as well as by hospital sources. Dost Mohammad Obaida explained that “most of them are dead”.
“This afternoon there was an explosion in a mosque of our Shiite compatriots following which some of our compatriots were martyred and wounded”. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on Twitter, adding that a special unit was sent to the scene of the attack to investigate the incident. At the moment the action has not been claimed, but in recent weeks those carried out by the ISIS-K militiamen have intensified.
