Afghanistan: Fifth Qatar plane arrives in Kabul, Panjshir, unclear | Qatar News

by admin

Today, a new Qatar aircraft arrived at Kabul International Airport. This is the fifth aircraft to deliver emergency relief supplies to the Afghan people.

Qatar’s ambassador to Kabul, Said bin Mubarak Hayalin, said that air transportation operations will continue in the next few days. In the past few days, other Qatari aircraft arrived in the Afghan capital, carrying technical equipment and materials for maintenance of Kabul Airport.

The Afghan airport today continues to operate domestic flights that have resumed for the first time after the withdrawal of the U.S. military. The Qatar technical team repaired part of the damage to the airport. The Qatar ambassador announced the operation of two domestic flights yesterday. Hayalin stated in a statement to Al Jazeera that international flights will start soon.

The resumption of domestic flights coincided with the announcement of the opening of safe corridors for international flights through the airport to provide humanitarian assistance.

On the ground, the Taliban declared control of the Short and Parian districts in the Panjshir Province of northern Afghanistan, while the forces led by Ahmed Masood stated that they had repelled the attack and vowed to continue fighting.

The Taliban continued fighting in the village of Gul Bahar in the Panjshir Valley with militants from the so-called “people’s uprising” and the Afghan National Front led by Ahmed Masood.

Both parties (the Taliban and Masood’s forces) emphasized that they caused heavy losses to each other. It is not yet possible to obtain independent confirmation of the condition of the Panjshir Mountain. The narrow entrance made the area withstood the Soviet occupation and the test of the former Taliban government.

Emergency, an Italian rescue agency that runs a hospital in Panjshir, said that Taliban troops have arrived in the village of Anaba, where it runs a surgical center.

“In recent days, many people have fled the village,” the Italian rescue agency said in a statement on Saturday, adding that it will continue to provide medical services.

The agency continued: “So far, our activities have not been disrupted. We have received a small number of patients at the Annaba Surgery Center.”

Annaba is located about 25 kilometers north of the 115-kilometer valley, but unconfirmed reports indicate that the Taliban have already occupied other areas.

Politically, the special envoy of Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mutrak Qatani met in Kabul with Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the head of the Taliban’s political office. Al Jazeera reporters reported that the meeting involved the peaceful transfer of power and the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Qatani also discussed with Afghan aviation affairs officials the operation of Kabul Airport in the future and what efforts need to be made to assess losses and repair failures.

Taliban and Hikmatiar

On the other hand, the leader of the Islamic Party of Afghanistan, Gulbudin Hikmatyar, said that his party and the Taliban are fighting for a free Islamic state free from occupation.

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Hikmatyar explained that representatives of the Taliban movement welcomed them to join the next government during their meeting with representatives of the Islamic Party, but so far there has been no formal meeting in this regard.

On the humanitarian front, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, discussed the situation in Afghanistan with Martin Griffiths, Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations.

In Doha, the capital of Qatar, the two sides discussed the coordination between Qatar and the UN Office of Humanitarian Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar affirmed that Qatar supports international humanitarian efforts and pledged to cooperate with the UN on humanitarian affairs.

Griffith said that the United Nations will organize a conference of Afghan refugee donors in Geneva on the 13th of this month, and pointed out that this is related to the responsibility of the international community to Afghanistan.

On Saturday, Griffith and FIFA President Gianni Infantino visited the place where Qatar received Afghan refugees. During the visit, Griffith listened to a briefing on the supplies provided by the Qatari authorities to Afghan refugees, and said that the donor country Qatar has been and will always be a friend of humanitarian work for many years.

Brinken in Qatar

Internationally, the U.S. State Department announced that Secretary of State Anthony Brinken will visit Qatar today and then go to Germany to reiterate the United States’ commitment to stable relations and express gratitude to Qatar for continuing to cooperate on common priorities.

On the other hand, the Democratic and Republican members of the U.S. Congress submitted a bill on Afghanistan in a brief introductory meeting, and members of Congress will vote on the bill after they resume work on the 20th of this month.

Representatives of both parties introduced a bill instructing the defense ministers to submit annual reports and briefings on Afghanistan.

Other legislators also proposed bills to establish a national committee for US involvement in Afghanistan to prohibit any federal assistance to the Taliban. Another lawmaker urged the secretary of state to refuse to issue an entry visa to former Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

General Mark Milli, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that there is a possibility of civil war in Afghanistan.

General Milli said in an interview with Fox News that he did not know whether the Taliban could consolidate power and establish a government.

In another context, Iranian President Ibrahim Leahy stated that the solution to the Afghan issue is to form a government that represents the will of the Afghan people and is free from outside interference.

In the first television interview after the establishment of the Iranian government, Leahy said that what happened in Afghanistan proved that the US presence in the region would not achieve security and stability, and would pose a threat to countries in the region.
