The still provisional toll of the explosion that hit a Shiite mosque in the province of Kunduz in north-eastern Afghanistan is at least 50 dead and 90 injured. A video shows lifeless bodies surrounded by debris in the mosque, a place of worship of the Shiite minority. For now, no terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but it has been specified that it was a suicide attack. The blast follows several other attacks – including one in a Kabul mosque – then claimed or attributed to ISIS.
A Taliban source, speaking on condition of anonymity, has made it known that the dead are at least 30 and dozens injured, but then the toll was unfortunately revised upwards.
The attacks reiterate that security is a problem for the Taliban leadership that took power in August and has carried out several actions against the Islamic State.
