Female footballers from Afghanistan and their families – 115 people in total – crossed the Torkham border to reach Pakistan after the government issued emergency humanitarian visas to help them leave their country following the takeover of the Taliban. Soccer players who belong to the junior women’s national team have faced threats from the Taliban due to their involvement in the sport.
