Afghanistan, the Taliban: “We are interested in Russian vaccines or those of other countries”

by admin

The Taliban are interested in vaccines from Russia and any other country. This was announced by the Minister of Health of the interim government, Qalandar Ibad. Furthermore, it was pointed out that the United States did not respect the commitment to send the doses made in the Doha negotiations on 9 October last.

“We expect to receive the vaccines that China has promised us as humanitarian aid. Anything that helps fight the pandemic and strengthen the health of our citizens is of great help to us. We are interested in receiving vaccines from Russia, as well as from any other country that wants to assist us on this front, “explained the minister.

“Three or four months ago, the epidemic situation in our country was very serious. The spread of the Indian variant was of particular concern. But since scheduled flights were suspended and borders with neighboring countries closed in mid-August, the situation has normalized and the death rate has dropped, ”he added.

In Afghanistan, despite the obvious difficulties in tracing, 156 thousand cases of Covid have been recorded (the inhabitants are 38.9 million in all) and there have been 7,262 deaths. But WHO data are incomplete and do not take into account the situation in various provinces of the country.

Earlier this week, the US State Department said it had sent an additional $ 144 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. A figure that now touches a total of 474 million dollars according to American calculations.

China, on the other hand, after meeting the Taliban on several occasions, decided to build a new military base in Tajikistan, near the border with Afghanistan. The lower house of parliament yesterday approved the project and, at the same time, offered Beijing to transfer full control of a pre-existing base.
