US military leaders told the Senate that Joe Biden received the generals’ assessments on Afghanistan prior to the withdrawal. But the joint chief of staff Mark Milley and the head of the US central command Kenneth McKenzie contradicted the president by saying that they advised him – unsuccessfully – “to keep 2500-3500 soldiers to ensure the stability of the government and the army of Kabul” . Biden previously claimed that he never received any such advice from his military advisers.
