After the match in Varaždin, the Hajduk camp did not complain about the disallowed goal, nor about the potential penalty, but about something completely different.

The championship title has never been so close and so far away – that could be a short description of Hajduk’s 2024 year, from which they expected a lot, but they have already lost so much.

The Split club, which has exceptional support from its fans, is leading the fight for the championship title this season, but despite Dinamo’s stumble, it is again behind in that race.

Hajduk was the first, but after ending the last year with two tied draws, the new year 2024 started even worse – in five matches, only two victories were recorded and now the “were” from Split are looking at the back of a heated Rijeka.

Hajduk made the latest setback on Saturday by playing 1:1 with the team from the back, Varaždin, who had one player less for 40 minutes, but even that was not enough.

With this draw, Hajduk missed the opportunity to take the lead before Sunday’s derby in Maksimir between Dinamo and Rijeka, where the guests could escape Hajduk by four points with a game in hand.

Hajduk had a lot of problems in the game, Marko Livaja’s goal was disallowed after intervention from the VAR room due to offside, but the official representative of the Split club made an interesting comment that was included in the official score.

Namely, the match delegate Robert Balen wrote that Hajduk’s representative “Mr. Stjepan Badrov, after the match, made a verbal complaint that the balls for the game were not sufficiently inflated and had to be replaced on several occasions”.

This kind of remark probably won’t be liked by Hajduk fans who expected much more from their club, especially after the excellent autumn part of the season and good moves like bringing Ivan Perišić from Tottenham, which further fueled the hope of all the people of Split to win their first championship title since 2005.
