In a brilliant phase, Al-Hilal beat Al-Ittihad 2-0 this Tuesday, 5th, in the first game of the quarter-finals of the Asian Champions League. At home, at the Kingdom Arena, in Riyadh, Jorge Jesus’ team achieved victory thanks to goals from Mitrovic and Salem Al-Dawsari. With the result, Al-Hilal is very close to reaching a historic milestone.

This was the 26th consecutive victory for the Portuguese coach’s team. If they win the next game (against Al-Riyadh, away from home), they will equal the biggest record of consecutive victories, which is held by The New Saints, from Wales (2016), with 27 matches.

The return game is scheduled for March 12th, at 4pm (Brasília time).

How was the game

The first half of the opening stage saw many passing errors from both teams. With a truncated game, individual plays gained prominence. But, despite Al-Ittihad being a little better on the field, it was Al-Hilal who took the lead. Thus, the goal that opened the scoring was in the 37th minute, when the referee awarded Al-Olayan a penalty on Mitrovic. The number 9 went for the ball, in slow steps, and sent it into the back of the net. Later, two minutes later, Jorge Jesus’ team expanded with Salem Al-Dawsari, who received assistance from the Brazilian Malcom.

Al-Hilal controls or results

Al-Hilal came back better after the break, controlling possession. Uncomfortable on the field, things turned ugly for Al-Ittihad when Kanté was sent off in the 20th minute for a strong tackle on Koulibaly. With one more on the field, the home team looked to score the third goal and kill the match. However, it was 2-0.

This was the safe victory against Al-Ittihad, as on Friday they won the match valid for the Saudi Championship.
