An armed man (but a witness would have reported that they are instead two people) is inside the Apple Store in Amsterdam: the police intervened by closing the square where the shop is located. As reported in the Dutch press, witnesses saw a man threaten someone inside the shop, after some of the people who were there managed to escape.
Dutch police said they had sent special units to a central square in the city, while local broadcaster AT5 reported hostage-taking during an apparent robbery. Several video clips on the broadcaster’s website appeared to show a person being held at gunpoint. “There is a person with a firearm in the shop … the police force is there with many specialized units and units on the scene to keep the situation under control,” tweeted the Amsterdam police. The Apple Store is located at one end of the elegant Leidseplein, a square on the south side of the city center.
