MODENA. A story with a happy ending in the tragedy of Afghanistan. An Afghan mother with two small children – a 40-day-old baby and a 5-year-old boy – who arrived in Emilia-Romagna last Friday together with a hundred fellow countrymen after landing in Fiumicino, yesterday, in fact, came to know, through the contacts maintained via WhatsApp, that her husband had also managed to arrive in Italy thanks to the army mission, with the last flight left.
The Civil Protection of the Emilia-Romagna Region therefore immediately intervened, contacting the Ministry of Defense which was able to identify it. A relay race was thus created between the military convoy with the last Afghans arriving and destined for Ponte Isarco (Bolzano) and the Civil Protection of Emilia-Romagna to take charge of the man and accompany him to the province of Modena. The reunification, reports the Emilia-Romagna region, took place this morning, to the joy and emotion of all and now the family is together again.
In Emilia-Romagna at the moment over two hundred Afghan people are hosted in structures in the provinces of Modena, Parma and Piacenza. These are women and men, and their families, who served in the Italy-NATO mission, and who had collaborated with the Italian authorities.
They spend the mandatory quarantine period provided for each traveler arriving from abroad (from 7 to 10 days), after which their stay will be organized on the basis of the indications of the Government.
The other provincial territories are also activated, ready to respond to any new needs in the coming days, always in agreement with the Ministry of Defense, the Presidency of the Region and the Civil Protection of Emilia-Romagna, with the collaboration of the Companies local health, civil protection volunteers and the Red Cross. Finally, the Emilia Romagna Region recalls that, while operating on the basis of its prerogatives in health matters, “it is constantly in contact with the local authorities involved and the prefectures of reference, in a logic of effective collaboration”.
