An inside look at the hidden war between the Taliban and the Islamic State-Wall Street Journal

by admin

Two days before Abu Omar Khorasani was shot by the Taliban, the former leader of the Islamic State branch in Afghanistan sat in a dim interrogation room in a prison in Afghanistan Here, waiting for the person who is about to execute him.

Knowing that the Taliban was advancing step by step, Horasani knew that things were about to change. Over the years, both the Taliban and the Islamic State have vowed to drive non-Muslims out of Afghanistan.

“If they were devout Muslims, they would let me go,” he said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.

When the Taliban militants occupied Kabul in August, they took control of the prison, released hundreds of prisoners, and killed Khorasani and eight others, all of whom were executed by the Islamic State terrorist organization.
