He deputy general manager of the Port of Chancay, Gonzalo Ríos Polastri announced that the construction of the Chancay Multipurpose Port is an opportunity to strengthen commercial exchanges with the Áncash region. During a guided tour of the port terminal facilities, Ríos Polastri highlighted the potential of the port to establish maritime and land connections that allow products to be placed directly in markets on the other side of the Pacific, that house a potential population of 3.5 billion people.

The vice-governor of Áncash, Angelly Epifanía Chávez, who represented the regional governor, Koki Noriega Brito, during the visit, said that this construction seeks to establish strategic alliances for the economic development of the region. Epifanía pointed out that both the Ports of Chancay and Chimbote have the potential to become important axes of economic development in the future.

For her part, the president of the Áncash Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, Elena Ríos Ortiz, also participated in the visit, where she highlighted that this experience has allowed Áncash to bring a clear idea about the management and vision regarding the port commercial activities with the world.

The Multipurpose Port of Chancay is projected as a generator of opportunities for various value chains in Peru. The first stage of construction, which is 70% complete and includes the construction of four docks (two for containers and two for general and fractional cargo), is expected to be ready in November. Commercial operations are expected to begin in January of next year, with a capacity to move one million containers per year.
