LONDON – A son of Italian immigrants will be Australia’s next prime minister. Anthony Albanese, 59, leader of the Labor party, won the election that was held on Friday and brought progressives back to power in Australia for the first time in a decade. With the count of the votes not completed, it is not yet clear whether his party will be able to count on an absolute majority, thus managing to govern alone, or will have to form a coalition, perhaps together with the Greens, who have in turn seen the consensus rise.
