BUENOS AIRES. A 6.2 Richter magnitude earthquake struck the northwestern Argentine province of Salta today, with no news of casualties or damage for the moment. This was announced by the National Seismic Prevention Institute.
The earthquake was recorded at 2.18 (7.18 in Italy) with an epicenter 189 kilometers west of San Salvador de Jujuy and at a depth of 205 kilometers. The strong quake was also reported by the Hydrographic and Oceanographic Service of the Chilean Navy which located it 301 kilometers from the Chilean city of Antofagasta.
