Jill Biden praised the organization of the event for realizing that “the diversity of the community, as distinct as the bodegas in the Bronx, as beautiful as the Miami blooms and as unique as the breakfast tacos here in San Antonio, is your strength.” The reaction of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists (Nahj) was immediate. “We are not tacos,” replied the association. “No wonder Hispanics are fleeing the Democratic Party,” he tweeted Andy BiggsRepublican elected in Arizona, also referring to the recent Quinnipiac poll which shows that currently only 26% of Hispanics have a positive opinion of the Biden administration, down from 55% last year.

The first lady intervened on the case through a tweet from her spokesperson Michael La Rosa explaining that Jill Biden “apologizes for her words that they only wanted to express pure admiration for the Hispanic community”.
