Xinhua News Agency, Brazzaville, March 12 (Reporter Shi Yu) Kinshasa news: Congo (DRC) local officials confirmed on the 12th that a freight train derailed in the southeastern province of Lualaba on the evening of the 10th, causing at least 60 people died.
According to local media reports, the freight train lost control on the evening of the 10th when it was traveling to the Lubdi area of Lualaba province, and seven carriages derailed and fell into a ditch. Although Congo (DRC) banned freight trains from carrying passengers, there were a large number of people on the freight train at the time of the incident.
At least 60 people have been killed and many injured in the accident, said Lubdi district administrator Mutanda. Search and rescue efforts are still underway and the death toll could rise.
Due to the aging of railways and locomotives, and the overloading of passengers and goods, train derailment accidents have occurred frequently in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. (over)
