by admin

The well-known Greek journalist Giorgos Karaivaz was shot dead in front of his house in the Athenian suburb of Alimos, south of the capital. According to reports from the daily ‘Ta Nea’, two men on a motorcycle approached the victim as he was returning home from work, around 2 pm, and opened fire by hitting him at least 6 times. The journalist’s body was found a few hours later, lying on the ground next to the car: according to a first reconstruction of the facts, the killers would have used a pistol with a silencer. The journalist died instantly, the police are looking for any witnesses.

Karaivaz is a veteran of Greek judicial journalism and has worked for numerous newspapers and television stations. Regular guest of a Star TV news program, Karaivaz also directed ‘Bloko’, a website dedicated to crime. He is the second journalist to be killed in Greece in just over 10 years. On 19 July 2010, the far-left terrorist organization ‘Setta dei Rivoluzionari’ had mowed down Socrate Giolias, director of radio Thema 9.89, with a blast of machine guns, who was also murdered in front of his house in Iliopoli. The Hellenic press speculates that the instigators of the Karaivaz murder are members of criminal gangs the subject of his investigations
