It’s easy to say green economy. But who and what dictates that a technology is actually “green”? Is it enough to establish that it does not cause polluting emissions or is it necessary to look at its entire life cycle? Photovoltaic energy is certainly clean, but how to solve the problem of the 8 million tons of decommissioned panels that risk ending up in landfills around the globe? And what to say, then, about nuclear power: the energy produced by the fission of the atom certainly does not produce CO2, but the horizon changes completely if we think about the possible consequences on the environment in the event of an accident and the fact that the waste remains radioactive even for thousands of years.
