Xinhua News Agency, Tehran, March 21 (Reporter Wang Shoubao and Gao Wencheng) Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Chairman Mohammad Islami said on the 21st that Iran will not give up “peaceful” nuclear activities.

Islami said in a traditional Iranian New Year message that day that Iran will never stop carrying out “peaceful” nuclear activities in the country and will work hard to advance plans to create value for the Iranians. He said the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran has a comprehensive plan to deploy the new nuclear technology widely in areas such as health, agriculture, industry and the environment.

Islami also said that Iranian scientists must continue to explore the frontier areas of knowledge and technology, and that Iranian nuclear industry scientists have been able to reach the “highest technology” in this field through effective efforts.

In July 2015, Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue with the United States, Britain, France, Russia, China and Germany. Under the agreement, Iran pledged to limit its nuclear program and the international community lifted sanctions on Iran. In May 2018, the United States unilaterally withdrew from the agreement, and subsequently restarted and added a series of sanctions against Iran. Since May 2019, Iran has gradually suspended the implementation of some provisions of the Iran nuclear deal, but promised that the measures taken are “reversible”.

On April 6, 2021, parties related to the Iran nuclear deal began to hold talks in Vienna to discuss the US-Iran resumption of compliance with the treaty. So far, several rounds of talks have been held. The eighth round of negotiations will be launched in Vienna in December 2021. On March 11 this year, Borrell, the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, announced that the round of negotiations was suspended due to “external factors”.
