Xinhua News Agency, Tbilisi, November 17 (Reporter Li Ming) The Azerbaijani army and the Armenian army exchanged fire in the border area on the 16th, causing more than ten deaths and injuries. The two sides confirmed on the 17th that the conflict has stopped and the situation in the border area has stabilized.

The official website of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan issued a statement on the 17th, saying that 7 soldiers on the Azerbaijani side were killed in the conflict and 10 others were injured. According to the Armenian Ministry of National Defense, one soldier was killed, 13 were captured, and another 24 were missing. Both sides accused each other of taking the lead in launching the offense.

On the evening of the 16th, under the mediation of Russia, the two countries reached a ceasefire in the border area. According to the confirmation by the Aya-Yaah defense ministries on the 17th, the ceasefire agreement has been basically complied with and the border situation has stabilized.

After the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the two countries broke out in war over the ownership of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Naka) region. In 1994, the two sides reached an agreement on a comprehensive ceasefire, but the two countries have been in a state of hostility over the Naqqa issue, and armed conflicts have occurred from time to time. In September 2020, a new round of conflict broke out between the two countries over the Naqqa issue. On November 9th of the same year, the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a statement announcing a complete ceasefire in the Naka region from 00:00 on November 10th, Moscow time. (over)
