Bayern Coach: Manuel Neuer is doubtful if he will appear against Leverkusen

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Bayern Munich coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed that captain and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is doubtful to appear in the match against leaders Bayern Leverkusen which will take place on Saturday, because the player is still trying to recover from a knee injury.

Neuer did not train with the team this week, and he only completed one individual session on Thursday.

“Manu will try and take part in goalkeeping training today. “That is Manu, so we will give him until 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon, to tell us whether he is OK,” said Tuchel as quoted by AFP.

Bayern will face Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen who are unbeaten this season at 17.30 GMT Saturday. Leverkusen is two points ahead of the defending German League champions.

Neuer returned to the team in October, after almost a year out with a broken leg.

Tuchel confirmed that back-up goalkeeper Sven Ulreich will play if Neuer is still unable to play.

Bayern is experiencing a goalkeeping crisis, because their third goalkeeper Daniel Peretz is also absent due to a knee injury.

Leverkusen have not suffered a single defeat in all competitions this season, they have a record of 26 wins and four draws from 30 matches under the tutelage of former Bayern and Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Tuchel said, “30 teams have tried and 30 teams have not been able to beat them. That’s an incredible pace and they are worthy of it. They did very well, but we were only two points behind.”

“It’s still early in the season, but this is a clear opportunity for us to put our cards on the table,” he concluded.
