(The Epoch Times, July 9, 2022) (The Epoch Times reporter Zachary Stieber / Takasugi compiles) U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday (July 8) signed an executive order to ensure women have access to abortion-related information and service.

Biden directed the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to expand access to various abortion methods, including one already approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) The pills used are called Mifeprex. The tablet can kill a fetus within 10 weeks of pregnancy. The agency has also been directed to ensure that pregnant women have access to emergency medical care and to increase public education on how to get an abortion.

Biden also directed his administration to examine other possible actions to protect the privacy of Americans seeking information on abortion and women who wish to obtain one.

Before signing the order, Biden said in remarks at the White House in Washington: “There is growing concern that extremist governors and others will try to get this data from your phone. The data is there, and from Find out what you’re looking for, where you’re going, and what you’re doing, as well as information about your health care.”

In addition, the White House announced that Biden-appointed Attorney General Merrick Garland and White House counsel would convene a team of attorneys and outside groups to encourage them to represent women seeking abortions, including those traveling to another state for surgery.

Expert: Executive order doesn’t reduce the dangers of pills

Dr. James Studnicki, vice president of data analysis at the Charlotte Lozier Institute, an anti-abortion, pro-life agency, told The Epoch via email. Times) said the safety of the abortion pill was “overhyped”. He also specifically cited a study of emergency room visits and data from Europe and California.

“The growing dominance of chemical-based abortions, which contribute disproportionately to the increase in emergency room visits, is a serious public health threat,” Studnicki said. Today’s executive order does not address or mitigate the very real dangers women face, as evidenced by real-world data.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has been under pressure to revoke approval of the drug Mifeprex. But so far, the agency has taken no action.

Danco Laboratories, which makes the pills, told news outlets earlier this year that it had a “steady and adequate supply” of the drug.

In 2020, more than half of all abortions were performed with the drug, according to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute.

Despite recent abortion bans in some states, Mifeprex drugs can still be delivered to women in all 50 states.

Senate Health Committee Chairman Patty Murray was among those who endorsed Biden’s order.

“These are good, important steps: but the fight is far from over,” she said in a statement. “As we continue to live in the post-Roy health care crisis, I urge the President to continue to do his best.” Fight back if I can, and I will continue to fight here in Congress.”
