Brentford vs Manchester City Preview, Maintain Champion’s Hope!

Jakarta, Beritasatu.com Meeting the only Premier League team that managed to beat them twice last season, Manchester City visited the Gtech Community Stadium for the 2023/2024 Premier League match against Brentford, Tuesday (6/2/2024) early morning WIB.

City easily beat Burnley 3-1 in midweek, while Thomas Frank’s Brentford were unable to capitalize on an early lead and lost 3-2 to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

The defeat to Spurs was a blow for Brentford who were trying to escape the trap of relegation. The Bees, Brentford’s nickname, are still in an unsafe position, ranked 15th, only three points away from the relegation zone.

Since beating Chelsea at the end of October, Brentford have not kept a clean sheet in any competition, although only Arsenal have managed to stop them in a home game in the 2023-24 Premier League season.

On the other hand, the visiting team Man City is actually on a positive trend. The defending Premier League and European champions have won eight in a row, with the latest victim being Burnley, coached by their former captain, Vincent Kompany.

The victory over Burnley also maintains their hopes of competing with Liverpool and Arsenal for the top position in the 2023/2024 Premier League standings.

However, keeping one clean sheet in the last 11 Premier League matches is homework for Pep Guardiola’s squad. What’s more, Brentford’s sting proved too strong for City, the treble winner (Premier League, FA Cup, Champions League) last season. Brentford returned from the Etihad with a 2-1 win and successfully won 1-0 at home at the end of last season.

Guardiola certainly doesn’t want to experience three consecutive defeats against the same opponent in his managerial career.

From the line-up, the arrival of Sergio Reguilon will strengthen host Brentford’s defense. Unfortunately, other defenders, Aaron Hickey and Rico Henry, are still undergoing treatment from the medical team.

Strike duo Bryan Mbeumo and Kevin Schade will also be absent, while Frank Onyeka and Yoane Wissa are still representing their country at the Africa Cup of Nations. Likewise with Saman Ghoddos who is still with Iran, who successfully reached the semifinals of the 2023 Asian Cup.

On the other hand, Guardiola has his entire squad ready to fight in the duel in London. Manuel Akanji has also recovered from a knee injury suffered in early January.

Erling Haaland is also likely to start, after previously playing 20 minutes against Burnley. Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias can strengthen the back line after not playing in midweek.

The Bees were faced with a challenge from the full Man City squad. With their latest performance, City should be able to gain three points at Brentford’s headquarters, while maintaining their hopes of competing for the Premier League title this season.

Estimated line-up:

Brentford (3-5-2): The spot; Collins, Mee, Pinnock; Roerslev, Janelt, Jensen, Norgaard, Reguilon; Toney, Maupay

Manchester City (4-2-3-1): Ederson; Walker, Slide, Stones, Ake; Nunes, Rodri; Silver, De Bruyne, Foot; Haaland
