Brittney Griner detained in Russia writes to Biden: “Take me home. I miss my wife and the team: I’m terrified.”

American female basketball star Brittney Griner asked President Joe Biden to help her get out of the Russian prison she’s been detained in since February, in a heartbreaking letter excerpts from the family.

“As I sit here in a Russian prison alone with my thoughts and without the protection of my wife, family, friends, Olympic jersey or any achievement, I am terrified of staying there forever”, wrote the two-time Olympic champion who is accused of drug possession after hash oil vaporizers were found in her luggage.

Griner’s trial began on Friday: the champion faces up to 10 years in prison. The next hearing is set for Thursday 7 July. The 31-year-old wrote in her letter to Biden that she understands that the president has many issues to deal with but begged him not to forget her and the other Americans detained in Russia.

“Please do everything possible to bring us home. I voted for the first time in 2020 and I voted for you. I trust you. I miss my wife! I miss my family! I miss my teammates! ! I will be grateful for anything you can do right now to bring me home “, reads the letter that was delivered to the White House on Independence Day.
