Budapest, thousands of people awaited for the anti-Orban Gay Pride march

by admin

Thousands of people are expected to attend the Budapest Gay Pride today, the event that will close the month of LGBT pride in Hungary and which will be a protest against the anti-gay policies of Viktor Orban’s government.

The country’s LGBT community organizations expect to see far more attendees today than the approximately 20,000 protesters who attended the last Pride march in the city two years ago. The demonstration will openly challenge the escalation of the Orban government’s anti-gay rights campaign. Earlier this month, a law went into effect in the country banning children from representing LGBT themes, with huge implications for education, art and entertainment.

On Wednesday, Orbán also announced a referendum with five questions to ask Hungarians if they want their children “to be protected from LGBT content”.
