Ortega Regime Punishes President of CABEI, Gisela Sánchez, for Diversifying Credit Portfolio

Once again, the Ortega regime’s oppressive tactics have come to light as they chose to punish Gisela Sánchez, the president of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI), for her commitment to diversifying the bank’s credit portfolio. Sánchez’s statements about reducing risk by diversifying the portfolio drew ire from the regime, while El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele chose diplomacy and welcomed Sánchez in person.

The Central American Bank for Economic Integration reported on Sánchez’s visit to El Salvador, where she was warmly received by President Bukele to discuss various issues. Despite the regime’s backlash, Sánchez reiterated her commitment to protecting exposure limits per country and empowering women within the bank.

In response, the Ortega dictatorship lashed out through Iván Acosta, the head of Treasury and Public Credit, demanding support in exchange for the vote they gave Sánchez for her election. However, President Bukele’s diplomatic approach stood out as he welcomed and engaged with Sánchez during her visit to El Salvador.

Sánchez’s work agenda in El Salvador included meetings with key officials and visits to projects financed by CABEI. The bank also approved additional funds for road infrastructure projects, showcasing their commitment to supporting member countries.

Former CABEI President Dante Mossi, known for financially supporting the Ortega regime during his tenure, used social media to criticize Sánchez despite losing the bank’s presidential chair. Mossi’s comments highlighted the political tensions within the regional bank.

Despite the controversies and political battles, Sánchez continues to push for diversification and efficiency within CABEI, emphasizing the bank’s role in supporting member countries’ development. Bukele’s diplomatic approach and commitment to collaboration signal a positive shift amidst the regional turmoil.
