At least 45 people died in Bulgaria tonight in the crash of a bus carrying citizens of North Macedonia. The accident occurred “on the highway 40 km south of Sofia,” said commissioner Nilolay Nikolov, head of the disaster emergency service, adding that “seven passengers were rescued”.
At the moment it has not been possible to determine the cause of the accident which occurred at around 2 am on Tuesday. 12 children were also in the vehicle, which came from Istanbul and headed for Skopje. “It is a tragedy. We do not know if all the victims are from North Macedonia, but this is what we assume because the bus is registered in the country, ”Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev said.
Bulgarian interim prime minister Stefan Yanev telephoned the prime minister of North Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, informing him of his intention to go to the scene of the accident.
