A 31-year-old surfer was killed in an alleged shark attack in Morro Bay, California, and a 24-hour ban on entering the water was spread across the bay. The BBC reports, citing state authorities. Local police said they responded to a report of a male victim “unresponsive on the beach after being pulled out of the water”.
The man – who was not identified – was pronounced dead on the spot.
