BEIJING – It has been talked about for at least three years, since in 2019 there was talk of an alleged secret agreement between Beijing and Phnom Penh for the use of the Chinese army of part of the Cambodian naval base of Ream: an agreement that both the parties in dispute have always denied having signed. Now the story returns to the Washington Post which, citing anonymous Western officials, reports how China is continuing to carry out work in the northern area of the base overlooking the Gulf of Thailand to, one day, install its military.
