A young man died after being shot by police near a school in the Port Union neighborhood of Toronto. The local media reported it. The officers had been warned of the presence of a person carrying a rifle on the street. About 20 minutes later, paramedics were called in for a shooting.
Toronto police chief James Ramer at a press conference called the incident “traumatic” for all involved, “given recent events in the United States,” he said. The officers “encountered an individual” who was subsequently shot at close range from the William G. Davis Junior Public School. No other people were injured.

“There is no threat to the public as it is believed to be an isolated incident,” assured Ramer. “At the moment we don’t know what was going to happen or what could have happened. So I don’t want to speculate and suggest that it’s anything like what happened in the US.” According to the police description, the young man appeared to be in his early 20s and was wearing a white baseball cap. During the operation, schools in the area were isolated.
