OTTAWA – A Canadian federal court rejected the government’s appeal against the 2016 ruling requiring the payment of compensation to indigenous children discriminated against in accessing the welfare system. Five years ago, the judges of the human rights court ruled that the authorities had underfunded the welfare for children who lived on the reserves compared to non-native ones and that for this reason 40 thousand Canadian dollars had to be paid (just over 27 thousand euro) to each minor taken away from their home.
