Rio – In honor of Monteiro Lobato’s birthday month, the show ‘Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, O Musical’ will take place this Thursday (18), at the Carioca metro station, in the Center. The presentation, which is free, will begin at 1:30 pm.

The musical will feature members of the Fluminense Youth Symphonic Band and the Rio de Janeiro Youth Choir, who will perform classics such as “Sítio do Picapau Amarelo” (Gilberto Gil), “SaciPererê” (Carlinhos Brown), “Tia Anastácia” (Dorival Caymmi) , “Emília, the people doll” (Baby Consuelo), “Viscount” (Lenine), “Cuca” (Cássia Eller), among others.

The show will be conducted by maestros Vinícius Louzada and Davi Fernandes.

According to MetrôRio, the presentation, in a pocket version, “is an invitation to explore the imagination, legends and popular culture that permeate Lobato’s work, opening space for reflections that make us see ourselves reflected as in a mirror” .

Monteiro Lobato

Monteiro Lobato was one of the first authors of children’s literature in Brazil and Latin America. Creator of the history of Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, he wrote a series of books dedicated to the characters, such as “O Saci”, “Histórias de Tia Anastácia and “Memórias da Emília”.

Lobato was born on April 18, 1882, in São Paulo and died on July 4, 1948, at the age of 66, in the capital of São Paulo.
