It’s Peru’s big day. Almost two months after the highly contested elections and only eight days after the official proclamation of the winner, the master Pedro Castillo is sworn in as the new president of the Andean country. He will govern for five years. The inauguration ceremony falls as always on July 28th, the day in which Independence is celebrated. This time it takes on a particular historical and political value: it is the Bicentenary of the ransom from the Spanish Crown.
